Family Tree in progress...

So this is Susan and J's Scrapbook. I figure I would let you guys in on what I am working with and putting in these first pages of the "Family Tree" kit into. This book is from a 12x12 Mambi Kit called "Our Travels". $24.99 at Hobby Lobby ($14.99 with the coupon and well worth it.) J usually will tolerate me dragging him through a craft store so  he was a good sport and helped me pick this one out for the both of us. The lettering for 'Our December' are thickers by American Craft called Sentiment. I love the foil shine with these. The book itself has a map cover which just happened to have where we moved from in Georgia to Panama City Beach Florida. So those two little dots you see are on purpose! :) To explain briefly 'Our December': our anniversary is Dec 11th and our song just happens to be 'My December by: Linkin Park'.

I used a Prismacolor B Brush tip pen to do the lettering. I tried my best calligraphy letting the pen do most of the work.

I took a little of Tim Holtz Distress Ink in 'Vintage Photo' to the edges of the pages with my blending tool. I just wanted them darker than what the paper already was. Then I made name plates for each side of the family using a sacrificial manila folder I had in my file cabinet. I inked the edges with the same ink.

Rounded the corners with a 1/2 inch Round it All. Using the striped butterfly paper I cut it 1/4 inch thicker and about a 1/2 inch longer than my original plate. 2 of the green gem stickies and it was complete!

Tip: I did a trial run on Ancestory.com. Free 14 days, and I did the World Tree because half of my family is from Germany. They have just a US version but I needed the WORLD ;) I did most of my research in a two day period and made sure to cancel my trail before it charge my card, but it was well worth it.

Don't be discouraged if you do not know every generation of your family. That's the great thing about having a scrapbook, you can always go back and add new things you discover!
